Testing the new Bash web store – with promising results

MyBroadband tested Foschini Group’s new Bash online store and was impressed with the fast service, given that the store is still in beta phase.

TFG launched Bash earlier this month, bringing consumers more than 200 popular South African store brands, including Foschini, @Home, Markham, TotalSports, Sterns and American Swiss.

It offers products in more than 400 categories for women, men, children, jewelry, sports, home goods and technology.

Buyers have the option of having their products delivered to their doorstep free of charge or picking up their products at one of the 800 Foschini Group stores across the country.

Although the online store is live, it has a disclaimer that it is in beta and bugs and issues may occur during your shopping experience.

Beta version refers to a pre-release version of a platform which is made available to a large group of users to try out under real conditions.

A beta version has usually undergone alpha testing internally and is generally close to the final product in terms of design, usability, and functionality.

MyBroadband tested the Bash beta and found the website easy to navigate and use.

We found that a few products were missing from the top level category and only appeared in the subcategories. It’s been fixed since we placed our order.

To test payment and delivery, we found a wireless charger for R499 and bought the product.

Creating an account was simple – it required a physical address, email and mobile number.

When paying, we could decide between delivery or collection.

The pickup option gave us a list of nearby stores, including @Home, The Fix and Foschini stores.

We decided to have our charger delivered, which cost R50 and promised a delivery time of 3-5 working days.

Shipping is free on orders of R500 and above.

Checkout was seamless with a PayU gateway, and options such as paying with a TFG account were also available.

We placed our order Thursday at 2:00 p.m.

We were able to track the package on the website and were told it would be delivered on Monday.

We received our package before 11:00 a.m., which means a delivery time of less than two working days.

This corresponds to what other online stores offer.

Our package was well packed with plenty of bubble wrap in a large courier bag, ensuring it arrived in good condition.

TFG has created a strong competitor to Superbalist, Zando and other online fashion and lifestyle stores.

With deep pockets and an excellent management team, Bash is a welcome addition to the South African e-commerce market.
