The Belgian online store of the Carrefour hypermarket chain is to be closed until next year due to a software overhaul and rebuild. This means the omnichannel retailer will miss out on the upcoming high season.
Currently, the Carrefour Belgium online store cannot take grocery orders. However, its same-day delivery service ShipTo is still operating, serving customers in Brussels, Antwerp, Genk and Liège.
The company states on the website: “Dear customer, our internal systems adjustments require more time. (…) In the meantime, you can try our personal shopper service ‘ShipTo’. You can also certainly still visit our stores. We apologize for the inconvenience caused and hope to welcome you again soon on our website for online orders.
The problems with the online shopping website stem from the collapse of Carrefour’s software partner, Food-X Technologies. The hypermarket chain started working with the Canadian software company in 2020.
The spokesperson for the supermarket, Aurélie Gerth, specifies in the same response: “This is why we are taking care of the implementation of a new warehouse management software. For the time being, we have reduced the capacity of the online store in anticipation of the launch of the new software, expected in early 2023.”
